    Call to Worship

    Psalm 95:1, 3, 7b-11
    1 Oh come, let us sing to the Lord;
let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!
3 For the Lord is a great God,
and a great King above all gods.
Today, if you hear his voice,
8 do not harden your hearts, as at Meribah,
as on the day at Massah in the wilderness,
9 when your fathers put me to the test
and put me to the proof, though they had seen my work.
10 For forty years I loathed that generation
and said, “They are a people who go astray in their heart,
and they have not known my ways.”
11 Therefore I swore in my wrath,
“They shall not enter my rest.”

This call to worship God, the rock of our salvation, comes from Psalm 95. And as we see, we are NOT to respond to him with UNBELIEF that leads to REBELLION – but rather with FAITH that leads to PRAISE. But we sinners need God's help to do this, and God's help is what we ask for in our first song, "Come Thou Fount".

    Confession of Sin

As we just said, mercy flows through Jesus alone. Jesus alone is able to forgive. So let's take a moment to confess our sins to the LORD. Please pray silently in your heart and confess your sins to Christ now.

    Assurance of Pardon

Brothers and sisters, if you have confessed your sins to God and asked for his forgiveness in Christ, rest in this promise from Romans 8:1:

"There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus".

Christian, it is now as if Jesus is saying to you what he said to the paralytic in Matthew 9:

"Take heart, my son; your sins are forgiven".

And with this great confidence in our salvation we glorify our Saviour.

    Corporate Reading

Please read out loud with me from our confession of faith:

1689 8.8 To all those for whom Christ has obtained eternal redemption, He certainly and effectually applies and imparts it. He intercedes for them, unites them to Himself by his Spirit, and reveals to them in and by His Word the mystery of salvation. He persuades them to believe and obey and governs their hearts by His Word and Spirit.

    Complementary Reading

Listen to this call of God and hear the promise that he makes:

“‘Turn to me and be saved, all the ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other. By myself I have sworn; from my mouth has gone out in righteousness a word that shall not return: “To me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear allegiance.””

“‘Only in the LORD, it shall be said of me, are righteousness and strength; to him shall come and be ashamed all who were incensed against him. In the LORD all the offspring of Israel shall be justified and shall glory.’” (Isaiah 45)

This reading was from Isaiah 45.

    Benediction

Receive this blessing of the Lord from His Word:

“Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, 21 equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.” (Hebrews 13:20–21)
