We gather before Almighty God to remind ourselves of His greatness and our great need for His grace.

Call to Worship
“The Mighty One, God the LORD, speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to its setting. [And He says…] ‘The one who offers thanksgiving as his sacrifice glorifies me; to one who orders his way rightly I will show the salvation of God!’” (Psalm 50:1, 23)
This summons to the whole earth to come and worship God comes from Psalm 50 This Psalm is actually full or warning. It calls on the people of God to remember who God really is and to approach Him with great humility. From the rising of the sun to its setting… anyone upon whom those beams of light might fall… all people are to bring thanksgiving to the Living God.

It is easy to talk about God and not really think about who He is. What are some attributes of God that the Bible makes very clear? What do you know to be true about Him from His Word.
Raise your hand and call it out when I point your direction. What is our God like?

Confession of Sin
The 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith, in the section on the Worship of God, suggests there are appropriate times to practice "solemn humiliation." We understand this to mean purposefully bringing ourselves low, in order to acknowledge the greatness of our God. Listen as I read from Isaiah 40 and use the thoughts of this text, to solemnly go low before your God.
“All the nations are as nothing before him, they are accounted by him as less than nothing and emptiness. To whom then will you liken God, or what likeness compare with him?”
“Do you not know? Do you not hear? Has it not been told you from the beginning? Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth? It is he who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers; who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them like a tent to dwell in; who brings princes to nothing, and makes the rulers of the earth as emptiness.”
“To whom then will you compare me, that I should be like him? says the Holy One. Lift up your eyes on high and see: who created these [stars]? He who brings out their host by number, calling them all by name; by the greatness of his might and because he is strong in power, not one is missing.”
“Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable.” (Isaiah 40:17–18, 21–23, 25–26, 28)

Silence & Meditation
Let's take a moment to sit in silence before our God, reminding ourselves of who he is, and how small we are before Him. (Close this time in a brief prayer adoring God for His greatness.)

Listen to this deep encouragement for the humble from the Word of God
“Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. [pause] He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:28–31)
This reading was from Isaiah 40.
