    Call to Worship

    “Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth! Serve the LORD with gladness! Come into his presence with singing!”

    “Know that the LORD, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.”

    “Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name!”

    “For the LORD is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.” (Psalm 100)

    This call to worship God comes from Psalm 100.

    LBC 1689 8.1
    God was pleased, in His eternal purpose,
    to choose and ordain the Lord Jesus,
    His only begotten Son,
    according to the covenant made between them,
    to be the mediator between God and man.
    God chose Him to be prophet, priest, and king,
    and to be head and saviour of the church,
    the heir of all things, and judge of the world.
    From all eternity, God gave to the Son a people to be His offspring.
    In time this people would be redeemed, called, justified, sanctified, and glorified by Him.

    Confession of Sin

    The reason we needed to be redeemed, called, justified, sanctified and glorified is simple: we sinned. And, sadly, our sins do not end the moment God saves us. Although we have been freed to not sin, we still do. And so we are grateful that our kind God allows us to come again and again to confess those sins and be forgiven. Please join me as I pray on our behalf. I read Leader, you read Congregation.

    Holy Lord,
    You come to us, but we do not recognize You;
    You call, but we are slow to follow;
    You command, but we negotiate instead of obey;
    You bless, but we have not thanked You;
    You love, but we have not loved You;
    You forgive, but we have not forgiven those who wrong us;
    You send, but we have given our all to our own mission;
    You serve, but we have avoided the poor and needy;
    You suffered, but we have sought a life apart from You.
    Forgive us our sin, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

    If You, O Lord, kept a record of sins, O Lord, who could stand? But with You there is forgiveness; therefore You are feared.

    Assurance of Pardon

    “Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.” (Proverbs 28:13)

    The mercy we need, is always found in Jesus Christ.
    What a friend we have in Jesus!
    Please stand and let's sing to one another of our elder brother and dearest Friend.

    Listen to the Word of God

    “Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain.”

    “For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles. Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared also to me. For I am the least of the apostles, unworthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me. Whether then it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed.” (1 Corinthians 15:1–11)

    This reading was from 1 Corinthians 15.
