    Call to Worship

Matthew 11:28–30 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” This call to worship God by coming to Him not a call to laziness. The rest Jesus promises is a giving up on doing good things to save your soul. But that faith always results in good works. We rest from our labours in order to put on the yoke of the Lord. Even though His burden is light, it must still be carried.

And part of our labour for the Lord in this life is properly worshiping Him in the ways He has told us to do so. But that is a task none of us can do without His help. Let's call on Him to send that help and make this morning all about Him. not a call to laziness, but resting in God for salvation

    Complementary Reading

Listen to the Word of God as I read a parable of Jesus where He made it clear that all who "come" were first sought for by Him.

“Now the tax collectors and sinners were all drawing near to hear him. And the Pharisees and the scribes grumbled, saying, ‘This man receives sinners and eats with them.’ So he told them this parable: ‘What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open country, and go after the one that is lost, until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, “Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep that was lost.” Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.” (Luke 15:1–7)

This reading was from Luke 15. Let's sing to one another of that day the Lord sought us, when we were just wandering sheep.

    Corporate Reading

Once God rescues us from our wandering, He calls on us to work for Him. And this is our great joy! Let's read out loud of this massive spiritual transformation that took place in all of us who have been saved by His grace.

“For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by others and hating one another. But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.” (Titus 3:3–7)

And now that we belong to Him, we are called to work for Him. Not to earn what He has already given, but to use our lives for His glory in this world.

Titus 3:8a (adapted) The saying is trustworthy, and I insist on these things, so that you who have believed in God may be careful to devote yourselves to good works.

    Confession of Sin

“So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin. (read twice)” (James 4:17)

Our typical problem is not that we do not know what to do… it is that choose to not do it. The right thing to do in any given situation can be difficult… costly.. hard. But when we refuse to do the right thing, the clear commands in our Bible, we sin. When we gossip. rather than address a grievance directly with our brother, we sin. When we keep watching that show or concert, even though we know it is sexually immoral, we sin. When we hold a grudge against a brother, rather than love him enough to overlook his fault and love him, we sin.

What right things have you been refusing to do. Find those in your mind right now, then I will pray for us and ask the Lord to forgive us for these offences. List of things from Covenant…

    Assurance of Pardon

Listen as I read this remarkable promise of grace that God extended to his rebellious people when they repented from their sins.

“Then those who feared the LORD spoke with one another. The LORD paid attention and heard them, and a book of remembrance was written before him of those who feared the LORD and esteemed his name. ‘They shall be mine, says the LORD of hosts, in the day when I make up my treasured possession, and I will spare them as a man spares his son who serves him. Then once more you shall see the distinction between the righteous and the wicked, between one who serves God and one who does not serve him.” (Malachi 3:16–18)

One true sign of real repentance is a zeal to do what is right. To serve God.

It is right and good for us to re-affirm our desire to serve the Lord. Please read out loud with me these words God's people spoke when Joshua challenged them to choose God and not their idols.
